Split Level House Plans

About these plans

What is a split level house plan? A split-level house is a single-family home with multiple stories that are staggered, rather than stacked on top of one another. Unlike traditional homes where floors run the full length of the house, split-level houses tend to expand horizontally. These homes often present great architectural lines, making them look generous in scale. The design typically features short or half-flight staircases connecting one floor to the next. The front door is usually on the ground level, with stairs running both up and down from there. Open stair railings provide division between floors, allowing views into various living spaces from a single point. While split-level homes are not commonly built today, many mid-century ones still exist, making this style quintessential to American neighborhoods.
